Radiant midnight
by Sommer

Windy howls beat against the cabins aging windows, rhythmically calling my name;
Heavy fog in my sleepy eyes offers confusing views of the room, darkened with the purples of cold night;
Chilly air entering my throat and chest reminds me of winter's harsh grasp;
Our faithful quilt falls from my naked body, and I feel the soothing radiance of the diehard fire coating my skin;
Short flames dance and jump, seemingly in a twined laughter of consumption;
I focus and gaze down to see the red flickering glows highlight soft contours of your bare legs;
Turning, I quietly take in the smells that are you: your hair and your skin, other subtle remnants of our passion from earlier;
These enticing scents, they've always given me strength and desire to love;
They are shear power, offering immeasurable joy to my simple mind;
I move silently away, resting my head again on the familiar pillow, content knowing I am the luckiest man alive.
